Through its proactive approach and dedication to research, the Players’ Mutual Society has transformed the way health and recovery is approached in the world of football, benefiting both players and clubs.
My work experience has been developed only in the Catalan Delegation. The Catalan Footballers’ Mutual Society (MCF) is an entity officially founded in 1930 exclusively dedicated to football injuries. It has the support of the Catalan Football Federation and the Spanish Football Federation, and covers the diagnosis and medical treatment in federated football and futsal at the level of all categories and for men’s and women’s football. The MCF is therefore the insurer of the Catalan Football Federation (FCF). There are more than 200,000 members of the bank throughout Catalonia, which means an average of around 26,000 injuries treated and 1300 interventions carried out each year. Exclusive medical care for footballers is a pioneering service in the world. The Catalan Footballers’ Mutual Society is therefore a unique entity and probably the one that treats the highest volume of injuries in footballers in the world. The Medical Service at the Barcelona headquarters is offered by four groups of traumatologists of recognized national and international prestige: Dr. Emilio Moragas, Dr. Ramón Cugat, Dr. José Aragón and Dr. Jaume Vilaró. The four main medical teams involve a total of 20 doctors between Traumatologists and Sports Doctors. In addition, the Catalan Footballers’ Mutual Society has a total of 205 subsidised centres throughout Catalonia, including Hospitals, Emergency Services, Medical Centres and Rehabilitation Centres. The Entity offers 24-hour medical care, 365 days a year and mobilizes about 500 ambulances annually, including medical helicopters from the S.E.M.
